K.William Scott, Esquire

K. William Scott practices primarily in the fields of real estate, wills and estate planning, and corporate law. Mr. Scott represents numerous companies, including many national, regional and area developers, builders and real estate agents, as well as area businesses. He has worked on a wide range of real estate transactions and financings, including acquisitions and dispositions of large undeveloped parcels, golf courses, shopping centers, residential and mixed-use communities, and commercial properties. He has also created, acquired, and sold numerous construction, development, contracting, realty, rental, mortgage brokerage, and title companies.
Mr. Scott has worked with national experts to develop numerous community associations and governance documents, as well as membership plans for resort recreational amenities, country clubs, and golf clubs. Mr. Scott has been appointed by the Governor’s office in Delaware to numerous legislative subcommittees for Livable Delaware and has served on the Board of Directors of numerous not-for-profit entities.
Mr. Scott formerly worked as Associate General Counsel to the Carl M. Freeman Companies and was integral in the acquisition, financing, development, construction, leasing, sales, and marketing of numerous award winning real estate projects. Mr. Scott received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Villanova University and a Juris Doctor degree from Villanova University School of Law, and he is a member of the Sussex County (Delaware), Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey Bar Associations. Early in his career, he clerked for the late Honorable Frank X. O'Brien of the Court of Common Pleas of Philadelphia County, Orphan's Court Division where he authored several published opinions on wills and estates.
Arthur Shuman, Esquire
Arthur Shuman practices primarily in the fields of criminal defense, civil litigation, corporate law, real estate, and elder law. Over the course of his career, he has tried hundreds of criminal and civil cases, with the majority involving homicide and complicated fraud cases.
Mr. Shuman served as a prosecutor for the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office, eventually rising to the second highest position, Chief Deputy District Attorney. For the past sixteen years, Mr. Shuman has specialized in litigation in the Federal Courts, and in the representation of small corporate clients and professionals. Throughout his career, he has argued many cases before State and Federal Appellate Courts, and has been involved in matters before the Pennsylvania and New Jersey Supreme Courts, and the Circuit Courts and the Supreme Court of the United States. He has been featured in a nationally-televised debate regarding Capital Punishment with Harvard Law School Professor Alan Dershowitz, and in a segment of the CBS News program 60 Minutes where he was interviewed by Mike Wallace about his role in the exoneration of a wrongfully convicted death-row defendant.
Mr. Shuman has also focused on the investigation and prosecution of Organized Crime and the training and education of prosecutors. Mr. Shuman has extensive experience in the legislative and political processes, authored or assisted in authoring laws regarding Driving Under The Influence and Underage Drinking in four states, and has written and lectured about Liquor Liability Litigation.
Mr. Shuman received a Bachelor of Science degree from Villanova University, a Bachelor of Arts degree from Villanova University, and a Juris Doctor degree from Villanova School of Law. He is currently a member of the Maryland and Pennsylvania Bar Associations. Since his retirement from the District Attorney's Office, Mr. Shuman has been in private practice, handling civil and criminal litigation, and has taught courses in contract law, real estate law, and other law courses as well as philosophy and ethics courses at Villanova University and LaSalle University.
Mary Ellyn Rozell, Operations Manager/Paralegal
Mary Ellyn Rozell brings over 20 years of accounting and financial experience to Scott and Shuman, LLC. She joined the firm after owning a successful accounting services company that served numerous professional clients throughout Worcester County, Maryland & Sussex County, Delaware. Prior to owning her own company, Ms. Rozell held several key accounting positions for the Carl M. Freeman Companies. She also has experience working for local real estate and custom homebuilding firms. Ms. Rozell received an Associate of Arts Degree from Delaware Technical Community College.
Susan D. Renehan, Title Services Manager
Sue Renehan, a native of Catonsville, MD, came to Scott and Shuman, LLC with over eight years experience as a residential real estate settlement coordinator. Prior to a two and a half year hiatus while serving as the in-house Settlement Coordinator for Carl M. Freeman Communities, Sue was employed by two of the larger settlement attorneys in the Bethany Beach/Ocean View area. Before relocating to the beach in 1991, she was employed by two of the largest law firms in the Baltimore area, working with senior associates and partners who specialized in corporate/securities law and commercial real estate lending.
Rebecca Thompson, Paralegal
Rebecca Thompson comes to our office with a wide-ranged administrative background. She has worked as a Unit Secretary at an area hospital and a Payroll/Accounting Clerk for a small local business. Rebecca worked her way through the various positions; Receptionist to Accounts Payable to Settlement Coordinator and even Service Coordinator; for a local builder before beginning her tenure at Scott and Shuman, LLC. Originally hired to head up the Post-Closing Department, she quickly picked up additional duties and took over the responsibilities of a Title Services Coordinator. Continuing with her desire to be challenged, she is now re-directing her focus toward the legal capacity of our office as Paralegal to K. William Scott, Esquire.
Nancy Noel Piel, Senior Title Services Coordinator
Nancy Noel Piel joined our firm in 2005 after relocating from the Washington, DC area. She held various positions at one of the oldest title companies in the city, which culminated into working in the claims section of the company. The majority of her career was spent at a premier commercial real estate company where she operated the boutique residential section of the office. She has experience in Maryland, District of Columbia and Virginia, as well as national closing experience. She is excited to be working in Delaware to add to her vast knowledge base. Nancy holds a BS degree in Social Work from Shippensburg University.
